Rationale.
The premise of this course is that service learning will help you investigate more deeply what it means to be a community member and teacher in a diverse, democratic society. Combining reading, discussion, action in the community, and reflection, service learning will help you grasp and apply course readings and lectures in the context of addressing real community needs. In addition to experiencing service learning, you will also begin to develop skills you will need as a teacher using service learning with your own students.
